ASSALAMUALAIKUM SYDNEY

This documentary aims to challenge the widely-held belief in western countries, that Islam is perceived as a religion associated with fear and terrorism. The host –TVIKIM’s Hajjah Mazlina Ismail shares how two Australian Muslim women practice their faith in a country where Islam is a religion of minority. Two Muslim converts, or ’Mualaf’, living in peace and harmony among Muslims and non-Muslims in Sydney. Both women embraced Islam later in their lives and they discovered that through mutual respect and understanding, the perceived racism and prejudice against Islam can be overcome. The documentary also takes the viewers to other cities like Bankstown and Auburn to experience the dynamics of the community of non-Muslims and Muslims living together. It is the hope that this story will inspire all to accept that religious differences need not be a barrier to peace and unity.
